Weiler Péter és a balatonoffseason instagram oldal egy izgalmas művészi kollaborációra szövetkeztek. Bartha Dorka, a balatoni épített környezetet dokumentáló fotói alapján Weiler Péter új műalkotásokat készít, ami az 1989-es rendszerváltó nyár eseményeit, ésa kor hangulatát idézik meg.
A kiállítás-sorozat a nyáron a festői környezetű balatonboglári Vörös és Kék kápolnában nyílt meg, majd Mindszentkállán, Zamárdiban a Strand fesztiválon és végül ősszel Budapesten a Hybridart galériában zárult.
A balatonoffseason instagram oldalt működtető Bartha Dorka a szezonon kívül egy retró Csepel biciklivel járja a tó alvó településeit, hogy téliesített nyaralókat, bezárt lángossütőket, restiket és emberek nélküli strandokat fotózzon. A Balaton ritkán látott, de mégis szép arcát dokumentálja, a nyári zsivajon túli nyugalom és a csend hatja át a képeit.

Weiler egyik központi témája a Balaton, ahol az összes gyerekkori nyarát töltötte. Ez a szerelem a tó és annak emlékei iránt egy kollektív öntudat tükre is, ami minden magyar embert szívből összeköt. A képzőművész gyerekkori nyarai közül is az 1989-es volt a legemlékezetesebb, mert a rendszerváltás, a német újraegyesítés politikai szelét itt a társas üdülőkben, kempingekben, strandokon lehetett a leginkább átérezni. Egy különös egyvelege volt ez egy szokásos balatoni nyárnak és a világtörténelmi fordulópontnak. Az NDK titkosszolgálata még megfigyeli a Balatonon nyaraló állampolgárait, miközben a Páneurópai piknik határbontást sugalló szórólapok terjednek a kempingekben. Weiler új képeivel a szabadság, mint eszme és a nyár által kínált szabad hétköznapok között keresi a párhuzamot. Az élet megy tovább, a tó vize langyos, a nyár véget ér, de már semmi nem lesz olyan, mint azelőtt.
A kiállításról: „A Magyar Tenger Társasüdülő annyira hibátlan cím, hogy az első reakcióm az volt, hogy a kiállítók találták ki ezt a nyaralónevet. Mint Wes Anderson A Grand Budapest Hotelt. Ebben a három szóban ugyanis tökéletesen sűrűsödik össze mindaz, amit a két alkotó műveiben részletesen kibont ezen a kiállításon.” – írta Zubreczki Dávid a tárlatról.

Weiler Péter and the balatonoffseason Instagram page have teamed up for an exciting artistic collaboration. Based on the photos documenting the built environment of Lake Balaton by Bartha Dorka, Weiler Péter creates new artworks that evoke the events of the summer of 1989, during the regime change, and capture the atmosphere of that time.
The exhibition series opened in the picturesque surroundings of the Vörös and Kék chapels in Balatonboglár during the summer. It then continued in Mindszentkálla than at the Strand Festival and concluded in Budapest in the fall at the Hybridart Gallery.
Bartha Dorka, who operates the balatonoffseason Instagram page, explores the dormant settlements around the lake on a retro Csepel bicycle during the off-season. She photographs winterized holiday homes, closed lángos stalls, empty beaches, and deserted places. The Instagram page portrays the rarely seen but beautiful face of Lake Balaton, capturing the calm and silence beyond the summer hustle.
Weiler’s central theme is Lake Balaton, where he spent all his childhood summers. His love for the lake and its memories reflects a collective consciousness that deeply connects every Hungarian. Among the artist’s childhood summers, 1989 stands out as the most memorable. The political winds of the regime change and the reunification of Germany could be keenly felt in the holiday resorts, campsites, and beaches. It was a peculiar blend of a typical Balaton summer and a world-historical turning point. While the East German secret service still surveils Hungarian citizens vacationing at Balaton, flyers promoting the border opening spread in the campsites. With his new images, Weiler seeks parallels between the idea of freedom and the ordinary days of the summer. Life goes on, the lake’s water is warm, summer comes to an end, but nothing will ever be the same.
About the exhibition: “The title ‘Magyar Tenger Társasüdülő’ (Hungarian Sea Holiday Resort) is so flawlessly fitting that my first reaction was that the exhibitors invented this holiday resort name. Like Wes Anderson’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel,’ these three words perfectly condense everything that the two creators unfold in detail in this exhibition.” – wrote Zubreczki Dávid about the exhibition.
